Amelia K. Smith Obituary

Amelia Karrs Smith (Nellie), 90, Landisburg, formerly of Arnold, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018. She was born Jan. 5, 1928 in New Kensington, daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Herman) Karrs.  Widow of Thomas R. Smith, she was a graduate of Arnold High School and resided on Iroquois Ave. for over 50 years.  Nellie was employed by Bell Telephone, Gulf Research, Davidson Sand and Gravel and the New Kensington YMCA.  She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking and especially spending time with family and friends at their camp in Johnetta. “Bub”, as she was known to her 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, could be seen in the bleachers cheering at their sporting events.  She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, rarely missing a televised football, baseball or basketball game.  She was a great supporter of football teams coached by her brother John and nephew, Tim.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tom, and sisters Frances and Marie and brothers, Stanley, John and Walter. She is survived by her four daughters:  Pat (Mrs. Jack Moyer) of Landisburg, Pa., Karen (Mrs. Jeff Aversa) of Leland North Carolina, Amy (Mrs. Mike Norris) of Apollo, Pa. and Sue Ann Smith of Los Angeles, Cal.  She is also survived by her brother Steve (Irene) Karrs of Lower Burrell and brother-in-law Al Smith of Gilbert Arizona.

Family and friends will be received from 1 to 4 pm Sunday at FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1125 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, PA. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
