Bernice M. (Spellman) Slahtovsky

Bernice Slahtovsky, 93 passed away peacefully Wednesday August 2, 2023.  She was the daughter of the late James and Edna (Gifford) Spellman being raised in Arnold and New Kensington.  She lived in Johnstown for 3 years, moving back to New Kensington and went into business with her husband.  She has lived in Lower Burrell for the past 67 years.  Bernice worked with her husband Joseph as a secretary and bookkeeper for 10 years at Valley Office Equipment.  She also was employed at Valley Community Services for Special Needs Children for 10 years, followed by 12 years at Phar Mor as a cashier.  She did volunteer work for Easter Seals (Physical Therapy and office work) while she lived in Johnstown.  Bernice volunteered at Spring Church, was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of The Association for Mentally Challenged Citizens, and a member of Allegheny Kiski Foundation for Handicapped Children.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Slahtovsky; two sons Joseph Jr. and Timothy; daughter Patricia L. Slahtovsky.  She is survived by her children Russell (Michelle) Slahtovsky and Charlene (Eric) Hiles; her grandchildren Sethe Slahtovsky, Kali and Jenna Hiles, Shawna and Jared Robertson; 7 great grandchildren.  Visitation and burial will be private.  Arrangements entrusted to the Frank F.
