Betty Kajut Obituary

Betty Mae (Wiant) Kajut, 96, of Lower Burrell passed away surrounded by her beloved family on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Southwestern Veteran’s Center in Pittsburgh.  Betty was born in 1926 in New Kensington, daughter of the late Harry and Margaret (Bieber) Wiant.  Betty graduated from Ken-High in 1944 and married her high school sweetheart Richard Earl “Dick” Kajut in 1947.  They celebrated 73 years of marriage, prior to Dick’s passing in 2020.  Betty worked as a clerk at Alcoa, JCPenney, and the local election booths, but was best-known for being a loving wife, homemaker, and mother to her 3 children.  She also worked as a dance instructor at Audrey Ann Dance Studio in New Kensington and loved dancing the “jitterbug” with her husband – well into the latter years of their marriage.  Betty enjoyed traveling the country (alongside Dick) in their motorhome, spending weekends at camp with family, cross-stitching, making beautiful baby quilts, and playing cards with neighbors.  She lived quite an active social life at the VA; enjoying bingo, poker, and mini golf.  Betty will be remembered by her family for her lively giggle, amazing hugs, passionately cheering on the Steelers, and love of Santa Claus.  Betty is survived by her sons, Richard (Nancy) Kajuth, of Pittsburgh, retired Sergeant Major David Kajut, of Fort Ashby, WV. and her daughter, Christine (Robert) Cousins, of Lower Burrell.  Betty was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Leonard) Wolfe of Tarentum, Commander Marc (Holly) Kajut of Hampstead, NC, Nora (Armando) Trimboli of Campbell, OH, Kristen (Tim) Blakelock of Lower Burrell, Elyse Cousins of Pittsburgh, Michael (Nicole) Kajut of Austin, TX and Richard Kajut of Winchester, WV; she was also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, as well as numerous family members, friends, and neighbors.  In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Earl Kajut, her brother, Harry Wiant, Jr. and infant granddaughter, Stephani Lyn Cousins.  Betty loved Jesus, enjoyed socializing with her numerous church friends and was a member of Lower Burrell Baptist Church.  A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Lower Burrell Baptist Church (additional details forthcoming).  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Burrell Baptist Church, 2935 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell PA 15068 or Southwestern Veterans’ Center, 7060 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA. 15206 with attention to: Activities Fund.  The family is forever grateful for the car, compassion, and friendship shown by all staff to both Dick and Betty.  Arrangements were entrusted to the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home, Inc., Lower Burrell, PA. (724) 335-6500.
