Dennis Ray Suhre

Dennis Ray Suhre, of Upper Burrell, died at his home on February 20, 2022.  He was born in Litchfield, Illinois, on July 6, 1948, graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1966 and received his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois in 1974.  He was immediately hired as a researcher by Westinghouse, then Northrup, and finally Carnegie Mellon.  When Dennis began working at Westinghouse, he said, “I can’t believe they pay me to do research!”  He was a very dedicated employee and well-liked and respected by his co-workers.  He was married to the former Lois Payne, who preceded him in death.  Dennis and his wife had no children, but they were parents to many cats over the years.  At the end of his life, Dennis was the owner of just one cat, “Blackie,” who very well may have been his best friend at the time.  Dennis never forgot his roots and returned to Illinois each year to celebrate the 4th of July with his relatives.   Surviving him are his sister, Judy Vaughn, and brother-in-law, Charles Vaughn, of Vacaville, California.  Dennis is also survived by his niece Sherry Vaughn Hass of Vacaville, California, nephew Steve Vaughn of Elk Grove, California, and nephew Scott Vaughn of Sacramento, California, and their families. Family and friends will be received at 11 a.m. on Friday until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home, Robert P. Karish, Supervisor, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA (724) 335-6500.  Interment will follow  in Greenwood Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dennis’ name to Frankie’s Friends Cat Rescue, 730 5th Avenue, New Kensington, PA  15068.  Condolences are welcome at www.giglerfuneralhome.com
