Elizabeth Devine Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Devine, 90, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2021, with her family by her side. Betty was born in Natrona, Pennsylvania, to the late Walter and Elizabeth (White) Kelly and lived her whole life in the Natrona/New Kensington/Lower Burrell area. After graduating from Har-Brack high school in 1948, she began working as a secretary at Alcoa where she met her late husband, John “Jack” Devine, and they married in 1953. Soon after marriage, Betty and Jack began their family at a small apartment in New Kensington then moved to their first house in Lower Burrell. When their youngest child started school, Betty went back to work as a secretary and recess monitor at Gladeview Elementary school and then later worked at The Allegheny Valley Mental Health Program as intake administrative assistant. Betty was a member of Saint Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered at the annual Bazaar in addition to volunteering with PTA, Boy Scouts, and Burrell Band Boosters. Although she claimed to have failed sewing in high school Home Economics class, she was amazing with needle and thread! Betty made beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren--clothing which is now being passed down to her great-grandchildren. She was also very talented at counted cross-stitch and created a legacy of framed works. Other joyful hobbies included playing bridge, golfing, and her extensive doll collection. Betty loved Christmas, family gatherings, and traveling around the country visiting her children, her many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, James Devine; her brother, Ronald Kelly; and her sister-in-law, Carmen (Arevalo) Kelly. Betty is survived by her brothers, Robert, Michael (Virginia), and Dennis Kelly; sister-in-law, Carolyn Kelly; her children, Debbie Devine (Michael Holtz), Maureen (Frank) Gigler, Jack (Virginia) Devine, and Jeanne (Joseph) Bolewitz; Daughterin-law, Laura Wright; her many grandchildren, Katie, John, and James Devine; Bonnie Kennedy; Cal (Danielle) and Christopher (Haydee Tejada) Manska; Lauren (Drew) Tudor, Frank (Alexis) Gigler, and John Gigler; Kelly, Joe and Sam Devine; Caitlyn (Kevin) Panasiewicz, Jessica (Jonathan) Streck, Emily Bolewitz (Ben Bonnen), Mary Bolewitz (Miller Reid), Joey, Elizabeth, Joshua and Susannah Bolewitz; and her great-grandchildren Kendall Stone, Casey Manska, Tenisia Tejada, Calista Manska, Christopher Manska Jr., Connor Tudor, Noah, Ella and Brooke Gigler, and Jack Panasiewicz. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, Inc., Robert P. Karish supervisor, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, 724-335-6500.
