George Smith Obituary

George “Jay” Smith, 93, a lifetime resident of Lower Burrell died on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at his residence of over 70 years. He passed peacefully, after a period of declining health, with the love of family by his side.

Jay was born the son of the late Lila DeWalt and G. Addison Smith in New Kensington. He was educated locally and graduated from Ken High School class of 1948.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947 on the Admiral’s Flagship Taconic, WWII and on May 19th, 1951 he married Patricia Busler Smith, with whom he recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

He was employed by Jerome Oldsmobile-Cadillac for over 40 years, prior to his retirement as the Service Manager in 1989.

He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, cars, motorcycles, sports (Steelers), cutting grass and vacationing in Myrtle Beach. Christmas was his favorite holiday, especially when the whole family could visit.

He was a member of Grace Community Church, of Lower Burrell, PA. and was loved by his neighbors and friends and those he met each week at the local coffee shop. He was known for his pristine lawn, clean cars and desire to help others. He will be greatly missed by his family to whom he was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Jay is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia Smith, and children, Melody Smith (Dave) Highfield of Apollo, Randy (Tracey) Smith of Lower Burrell, and Shelley Smith (William) Schroen of Houston. In addition he is survived by 7 grandchildren, Ryan and Todd Endlish, Jessica Johasky, Nichole Smith Tippin, Erica Johasky Michel, Brad Smith and Troy Highfield, and 5 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be private.
