Hazel L. Basta, 85, of Lower Burrell, died peacefully on Friday February 5, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Ollie Bailey and Ruth “Wib” Walters. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Bush and her second husband, Robert Basta. She was also preceded in death by her sister Marge Buckley. Hazel was a bookkeeper for PNB, Mac’s Village Shop, Keystone Bank, Federal Reserve Bank, Silverman’s Drug Store and CVS. She volunteered her time at the Bon Air PTA, the Lower Burrell Flyers Association, Burrell Gridiron Club and Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of Grace Community Presbyterian Church in Lower Burrell, where she served as a Deacon, head of bereavement dinners, and the prayer chain. Hazel packed bags for Meals for Children, assisted with summer bible school, and was also a church usher. Her hobbies included traveling, baking, avid bird watching, and reading books. She greatly enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially family reunions and hosting annual Christmas parties. She always looked forward to attending not only her children’s sporting events, but eventually those of her grandchildren. Survivors include her sons, Michael (Carmenza) Bush, of San Jose, California and Kerry (Kathy) Bush, of Upper Burrell; two sisters, Arlene Finnecy, of Penn Hills and Betty Bailey, of Arnold; grandmother of Andrea Fraume, Aleja Fraume, both from San Jose, California, Resa (Kirk) Hays, of Brookville and Cole Bush, of Charleston, SC. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home, Inc., Robert P. Karish, Supervisor, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Community Presbyterian Church, 2751 Grant Street, Lower Burrell, PA 15068 with Pastor Ken Foust officiating. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. We will be following CDC guidelines, and masks are to be worn in the funeral home and church.
