Jeffery Burkot Obituary

Jeffery “Skipper” Adam Burkot, 82, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Jeff was born the middle child of three children to Florence and Adam Burkot in Chicago, IL on April 17, 1940. He served in the United States Army in his younger years and worked as a manager for both Hotel Roanoke in VA and The Flamingo Resort & Marina in the Everglades National Park in FL, sharing his goofy sense of humor with all he encountered.

He had a passion for helping people and loved being involved with his son’s Cub Scout group and served as Cub Master for Pack #621 in Upper Burrell Township for many years. He also found joy in being an assistant coach for his daughter’s softball team when she was younger.

He served as a Deacon at Puckety Presbyterian Church in Lower Burrell, PA and continued in his faith through the years.

He and his wife met in the Everglades and it was love at first sight. They worked together, he as her boss and often shared stories of their whirlwind romance that led to their marriage in FL and their eventual move up north to settle in and build a life in Pennsylvania.

He loved all animals, big and small, and made sure his visiting deer, furry, and feathered friends could always come to his yard and be fed. As much as he loved all animals, his dogs were his best friends and he loved and spoiled them with all of his heart.

When he found time to enjoy his hobbies, after being an amazing husband, father, friend, he could be found fishing at the local lake or bowling on the church league with his wife when he was a spry, younger man. In his older years, his love of animals and taking care of them became his hobby.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis (Blandford) Burkot of 53 years, his children Dawn (Burkot) Ross (Allen Ross) and Adam Burkot and granddaughter, Addalynn Burkot, and grandson, Jacob Ross, his sister Patricia (Burkot) Schardt (Andrew Schardt), many nieces and nephews, and his furry best friend, Allie Mae.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Florence, his dad, Adam, his brother, Jerome and his beloved dogs-Touché, Buttons, Buffy, Lucy Belle, Jody, Shamus, and Laddie Boy.
