John M. Best, 85, of New Kensington passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, July 21, 2023. He lived in Lower Burrell all his life until 9 years ago when he and his wife moved to New Kensington. He was the son of the late David and Eunice (Kunselman) Best. He was also preceded in death by his son, James R. Best; his brothers, Robert and David Best; and his canine buddy, “Butch.” He retired in 1993 as a Technical Lab Supervisor for ALCOA after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Tyrian Lodge #644 F&AM, Lower Burrell, Scottish Rite, Syria Shriners, and a past member and King Lion of the Lower Burrell Lions Club. Very Proud member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodcrafting, making tables, desks, and other wood related items. He had a passion for his garden and gardening that he learned from his father. His true enjoyment was Bebopping around in his truck with his granddaughters, Jenna and Jessica. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo-Rene (Kowal) Best; Sons, John (Teodora) Best, Italy; David Best, New Kensington; and Eric (Jennifer) Stull, Lower Burrell; Daughter, Brenda (William) Gosney, Fla. Also 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. The Best family would like to thank Monarch Hospice for their caring and compassion.
