Merle E. Sober of Leechburg was laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park after passing in his sleep on November 4, 2023. He was born in Allegheny Township and graduated from Freeport H.S. Before and after his service in the Army during the Korean War, he had a 40 year career with Allegheny Ludlum.
Returning from active duty, he married Rose Marie Bessolo of Leechburg and they had a son, David. They were married for 62 years until her passing in 2017.
He was a member of the Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, VFW, Shriners, Masonic Lodge and various local philanthropic organizations.
Merle was devoted to God, family and country. Family and friends could certainly agree. His interests did include horseback riding, traveling, hunting and fishing and golfing and cars, but everything for him centered around people other than himself. He liked helping everyone in their endeavors and he could always share a good story at the right time.
He is survived by his son, David Sober, 2 close nieces (Nancy and Donna), their husbands and six children.
He said that he had reached all of his goals and wants anyone reading this to strive to do the same. Arrangements were entrusted to the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home, Inc., (724) 335-6500.
