Roseann Valchar, 89, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away December 24, 2023 at HarmarVillage Nursing Home in Cheswick. She was born March 7, 1934 in Brackenridge, PA to the late Josiah and Sarah Jane (Ewing) Moser. She was a 1952 graduate of Harbrack High School. Roseann was hardworking and intelligent with an exceptional sharp and dry wit. She was an excellent roller-skater and spent much time at Tarena roller rink in Tarentum. She was the youngest of 7 children, and worked a myriad of jobs throughout her life including working in a mushroom mine and at Liberty Glass in Brackenridge. When walking down the long, steep, and sometimes dangerous “Pittsburgh Steps” to her job at Liberty Glass, she was known to carry a knife for protection. Once she was married with a large brood, she worked many part time jobs including jobs at Foodland, Bonellos, Belair Nursing Home and Citizens Hospital. In her role as mother (and grandmother) she was a master of “giving” advice and eventually having you see things her way. When speaking of her children she would quip “We did the best we could with what we had to work with.” After her parenting and advice-giving duties, she still had time to do 500 and 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles and large crossword puzzles at record speeds. She tirelessly helped her children and grandchildren (whether they wanted the help or not). She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in spirit. And she always rooted for the underdog.
Besides her parents, Roseann was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clement Edward Valchar, by her 4 brothers, James Moser, Richard Moser, Josiah Moser and William Moser, and 2 sisters, Arlene Salsgiver and Mary Jane Janoski.
She is survived by her 5 children, Mark (Barbara) Valchar of Petersburg, PA, Marcia (Jack) Richardson of Lower Burrell, Chris Valchar of Lower Burrell, Eric (Katrina) Valchar of Bethel Park, and Kathleen Valchar of O’Hara Township; 8 grandchildren, Jaclyn (Matt) Prather, Lauren (Steve) Dubnicay, Zachary (Sylvia) Valchar, Megan (Rob) McGivern, Nathan (Laura) Valchar, Amanda (Jon) Wright, Christopher (Alyssa) Hohenberger, and Sarah (Kyle) Breech, as well as 15 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
We will miss Roseann greatly but know that she is with loved ones whom she has been away from for too long.
The family would like to thank the staff at Amber Woods for taking good care of our mother and being the frequent recipients of advice on how to run the place and where to put the piano in the dining room. She loved interacting with everyone at AW. Thank you also to the HarmarVillage Staff and AHN Hospice for making the end of her life the best it could be. Family and friends will be received on THURSDAY December 28 from 4-7 pm at the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home, Inc. 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday December 29 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell (Everyone please meet at Church). Interment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. www.giglerfuneralhome.com.
